All my life, I have been an avid reader. I read everything that I get my hands on. I still subscribe to a hard copy newspaper, and I read the comics section first. I love doing the crosswords, Jumble, and Sudoku. I love reading celebrity and entertainment news. And I now read the obituaries on a regular basis. Guess that’s a sign of getting older. But, first and foremost, I am a news, current events, and political news junkie. I not only read hard copy news but also many of the online news sites. There’s a lot of trash out there and some really way out stuff, too, and when I want to get really frustrated, I read the Newsvines and blogs following news articles. Frightening really.
Until a year ago, I was employed full-time outside the home, and I have spent a lot of time keeping up with various trade journals and professional publications. When we were having kids, I read a lot of books on parenting. I have spent a great deal of my life pursuing continuing education so I have spent a lot of time Readin’ non-fiction books and periodicals. I am an American Red Cross volunteer, so I spend some time taking various classes recommended for disaster team members. In the Spring of 2010, I completed the 4-year Biblical Studies program through the University of Dallas.
Bottom line, outside of a few weeks of vacation each year, I haven’t spent much time on my first love – Readin’ novels.
Since there’s so much out there, I decided to use the “Works referred to on the AP Literature exams since 1971” reading list as a reference. Thanks, Mrs. B., for sharing that with me! Hey, if it’s good enough for our kids to read, then it should be good enough for me.
So, Readin’ is on my personal Bucket List. I’ll be sharing some author / book reviews with you, and I’ll take Readin’ referrals, too.
