The First Day of Spring!

I took the following pictures a few days ago on the first day of Spring.

DSH cut our grass last weekend.  It was still, technically, Winter.  It just seems wrong to be cutting grass in Wintertime around here.  New baby grass is growing in the spot where we lost a tree last Spring in a windstorm.

Temperatures, here, have been 20 to 30 degrees higher than normal.  It’s really been almost like Summer instead of like Winter or Spring.  I have refused to turn on the air conditioner, though.  Air conditioning in Winter in the Midwest?  No way.  But some people here have turned it on already.

Parsley.

I have had fresh parsley most of the Winter.  It’s been that mild.

Rosemary.

I have had rosemary all Winter, but rosemary winters well anyway.  If you like honey and rosemary and shortbread cookies (and who doesn’t?), then you should make Honey Rosemary Shortbread Cookies.

Chives.

So green and pungent.  Oh, my.

Mint.

Mojitos anyone?

Sage.

Roasted chicken with sage.  Yummy.

I also have marjoram, oregano, tarragon, and thyme poking up through the soil in the garden.  Got my hands dirty pulling weeds.  Boy, did that feel good.  Can’t wait to plant peppers and tomatoes and flowers, too.

Spring and Summer – my two favorite seasons.
